I posted this clip from Alex and Matthew’s wedding on TikTok this past weekend and it’s gotten, at the time of writing this post, fifteen thousand views. Which I understand isn’t that many views, but for someone who hardly uses TikTok at all, it feels like going viral.
I couldn’t care less about the analytics of the clip, but what I do care about, and why I posted it, is how genuinely sweet it is. That hug tells me more about their relationship than anything else could. Beyond the “soul mates”, “partners in life”, till-death-do-us-part language, and being parents to a beautiful little girl — they are friends.
And I have to imagine in a long life together that will inevitably have ups and downs, just being buddies is a wonderful raft when the tide is high.
